Pascal Smet, VGC college member for Culture, Youth and Sport: “There is not much space in our city. We will therefore continue our focus on shared use of our available infrastructure. Education and sports are joining forces to ensure optimal use of their buildings during and outside school hours. This way, the Brusselers and their sports clubs will have a new sports and socialising hub.”

“By opening the sports facilities on the school campus also after school hours, the VGC addresses the great demand for additional sports infrastructure in Brussels,” says Brussels Minister Sven Gatz, VGC college member for Dutch-language Education and Schools. “The VGC-Sportdienst will manage the sports halls after school hours. This sports service will work closely together with both schools on the campus. A win-win situation!”

On 1 September 2020, the new St. Michel school campus in the Maritime quarter in Molenbeek opened its doors. The Imelda Institute was the first to use the new buildings, followed a few months later by GO!4cITy. Each school has 7,500m² of classrooms available and together they share 3,000m² of outdoor space and 2,000m² of sports facilities. From September, these facilities will be shared after school hours for various sports initiatives.

The VGC-Sportdienst announced this within the N-network, after which several sports and leisure organisations came forward. As from September they can make use of a hall for ball games, a gymnasium and a small dance hall.
